Adventure: Tarawa is the largest island atoll in the Northern Gilberts,
and the gateway to Betio, the scene of one of the bloodiest battles in the
Second World War. |
| Tour Detail: You'll arrive at Bonriki Airport and met
by your guide "Molly", transfer to the Otintaai Hotel in Bikenibeu where
you'll be allocated your room. |

| A.M. or P.M. Dependant upon the tide. The tour of the Betio
battlefield will commence on this day and reef shoes are recommended to
be worn. |

Molly and your transportation will take you to Betio. Take pictures of
the Vickers 8" guns brought to Tarawa from Japan. These were originally
used with the Japanese/Russian war of 1905. |

Visit the Japanese earthworks and bunkers which fortified the island of
Betio. See the remains of Amtracks, American Sherman and Japanese tanks,
shipping, Japanese & American aircraft. |

|
You will visit the American & Japanese war memorials and the Cenotaph
erected as a memorial to the coastal watchers and the Shinto shrine erected
by the Japanese in memory of its war dead. |
| This tour will take between 4 to 5 hours, light refreshments
will be available on the bus. |

| A.M. or P.M. Alternative Tour |
Molly and your transportation will take you to observe the local culture
and have the opportunity to meet the lovely and hospitable I-Kiribati people
in their own homes. Molly will act as your interpreter if necessary, please
ask questions. This tour will take approximately 2 hours. |

Bar-b-cue provided by the hotel with an I-Kiribati dancing group to entertain
you with traditional dancing. A minimum of 10 persons. N.B. Cost for dancing
groups is separate and around $100 - $150 payment for which is met separately
by the tour group. |
